The poll results revealed that 40% of respondents believe that Setting Clear Boundaries was their most effective strategy to prevent burnout. Rest and downtime help the brain process, recharge, and spark creativity and innovation!
“It’s important to protect your time, space, and sanity, and the only way to realistically do this is to set boundaries for yourself,” said Alan Deibel, a licensed clinical professional counselor at Grow Therapy.
You can begin setting clear boundaries by Saying "No" More Often, which 25% of respondents agree is an effective strategy to reduce feelings of burnout. Of course, there are situations and required tasks that must be completed; however, work to avoid things that are not a priority in times of additional stress and change.
Prioritizing Daily Tasks came in third with 21% of votes. This is important as it enhances your decision-making, helps with time management, gives a clear picture of what is important, and reduces stress.
Open Communication came in fourth with 15% of votes. According to Blink, business leaders estimate that their teams lose an average of 7.47 hours weekly due to poor communication. In contrast, open communication can increase productivity by twenty-five (25%) percent (Expertmarket.com)!
It's important to inform your manager about any areas causing stress and burnout. Remember, your manager is there to help you find solutions to these challenges. According to Eagle Hill Consulting's Workforce Burnout Survey (2024), 44% of employees do not feel comfortable discussing their feelings of burnout with their manager or employer. This lack of communication can be detrimental as it creates additional stress, fails to address the concerns, and leaves your manager in the dark.
As you reflect on your goals and achievements for 2024, consider how you will implement these strategies now to prepare for a joyful beginning to 2025!
